Energy Engineer / Project Engineer

Iconergy

Job Posting: Energy Engineer / Project Engineer

About Iconergy

Iconergy is a growing performance contracting and energy engineering firm with offices in Denver and Boulder. We are a team of experienced energy engineering and design-build professionals who came together to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the built environment.

We deliver value to our customers by integrating specialized technical knowledge with outstanding program and project management and delivery. We strive to see the world through our customers’ eyes so that we can advance their agenda in all phases of design and construction.

Iconergy’s Energy Consulting Team maintains a diverse portfolio of exciting projects, located mainly in Colorado and adjacent states. Our projects include laboratories, health care facilities, and recreation facilities among others. Our work includes complex and specialized systems that will serve their communities for decades.

Position Summary

Iconergy seeks to add an Energy Engineer to our Energy Consulting Team. This individual will work with a team of experienced engineers to improve the quality of both existing and new buildings. People connect with their communities through these buildings, and we seek to ensure that their operations enhance those connections.

Our primary job is to make sure that the building owner’s vision for the building is achieved. We take the time to understand that vision and its implications, and then we serve as part of the owner’s key technical team during the design and construction phases. We recognize that we are part of a much bigger team at each site and strive to develop the types of relationships that foster a positive team environment with the focus on the owner’s vision.

We develop each other and the company so that we can continually improve as a team and acquire new knowledge. We connect with one another because it’s fun and because our team is stronger as a result. We support one another, especially during crunch time, because we are better as a result and the results we achieve for our clients are better.

Your work will mean something to both our internal team and to our customers. Your work will be on the critical path to project completion. Your ability to learn quickly, to ask the right questions, and to deliver on your commitments will directly affect our collective success.

A day in the life of the successful candidate:

During an office day, you might work on these types of tasks:
• Design Building Automation Systems with schematics, points lists, sequences

• Perform energy modeling with hourly simulation software such as Open Studio, Trane Trace, or eQuest
• Write reports that summarize the key findings of our work for external audiences.
• Develop payback analysis on energy audits and retro-commissioning measures
• Program HVAC fault detection diagnostic software
• Program energy dashboard software
• Create energy metering design solutions and perform metering equipment installation startup tasks

You’ll work in a place that encourages you to:
• Take pride in the work that you do.

• Create processes to complete tasks where no process previously existed.
• Identify and pursue opportunities to expand your knowledge and the reputation of the firm.
• Work with multiple project managers to prioritize your tasks,
• Practice and refine your leadership skills on a daily basis.

Depending on your experience and strengths, you may already have or will have the opportunity to grow into these aspects of the business in the next 2-3 years:
• Manage parts of a project on your own and, if successful, an entire project.
• Contribute to business development, including speaking events and proposal development.
• Support new building commissioning, including conducting site inspections, functional performance testing, design reviews.

The successful candidate’s background will look something like this:

• BS or MS in a technical field, such as engineering (mechanical, architectural, computer science building/energy systems, environmental, electrical, or civil) or another related field (e.g., physics, applied mathematics).
• 2-8 years of work experience in the built environment, preferably in energy engineering, controls design or commissioning. Adjacent fields, such as design engineers, MEP coordinators, or controls technicians/programmers with the required degree(s) are also potential fits.
• Demonstrated experience with analysis of field data and/or statistical analysis.
• Demonstrated excellence in communication (written and oral) and organizational skills.
• Moderate to advanced skills in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, etc.
• Additional skill sets that would be a plus include Bluebeam, Visio, and programming skills in VBA, or other relevant analysis languages and tools.

Positions at Iconergyare functions of the marketplace and, therefore, dynamic. We’ve described the position as it is forecasted from today through the next twelve months. We are constantly evolving our services and also addressing client requests that may change the description in a number of ways over time.
