Fuel Cells for
Electrical Generation
Colorado Governor's Office
of Energy Management and Conservation
The Governor's Office of Energy Management and
Conservation (OEMC) recently issued a request for proposals (RFP) to fund a
fuel cell demonstration project. A demonstration project is needed to help
introduce this technology and showcase its capabilities to Colorado
electricity consumers, particularly homeowners and small businesses, and to
help speed up the adoption of this technology. The project is intended to show
and evaluate as many qualities and characteristics of fuel cells as possible.
OEMC wants to demonstrate two fuel cell
applications: One is for a residential-sized electricity load and another is
for a small-business-sized load. OEMC is seeking a project that illustrates
this emerging technology as a highly desirable source of electricity for
almost any size of electricity load. Fuel cells are very clean and reliable,
make no sound, produce high quality electricity and allow a load to be located
on or off "the wire."
